Youth
The mission of the youth ministry at PLPC is to:
• Create a welcoming, fun, and safe learning environment for the children and youth of our community
• Call them to be disciples of Christ
• Empower them to teach, serve, and share the love of Jesus Christ as they honor God's world.

High School
Our youth group is open to any teenager, 9th-12th grade. We have a very diverse group coming to us from 6 different high schools.
This well-established high school program began in 1993. The group not only participates in Project J.O.Y., but in several other mission efforts such as Community Care Kitchen and ReConstruct, repairing and painting a house of a disabled woman.
Bible study is also a part of high school gatherings, focusing on the challenges of life as a young Christian.
The group enjoys several fun annual events like a Fall Retreat to Fall Creek Falls, the 50's Drive In Restaurant, Bon fire Cookouts and scavenger hunts.
Middle School
The Middle School Youth Group, kids 5th-8th grade, is a very mission-minded group. Not only is the group sponsoring a child from Rwanda, they are active in the Community Care Kitchen, Room at the Inn, Sandwiches in the Park and volunteering at the animal shelter. They also participated in Project JOY.
The group also enjoys fun stuff too: sleepovers, a fall retreat, and an outing to Family fun Center.
Acolytes
The acolytes are children ages 7 years and older who participate in the worship service by bringing in the light at the beginning of the service by lighting the candles. At the end of the service, they take the light out into the world. Phil Hereford directs the acolytes. When a child expresses interest, he or she is trained and then paired with an experienced acolyte the first time. Contact Shirley Hansel to set up training for your child.
Project J.O.Y.
This youth-driven project is the church's biggest mission. We collect food, clothing, toiletries, and learning bags to distribute to an impoverished community in the Appalachian mountain area of Kentucky. [More]
CareS
CareS is a Wednesday night program for all children, Pre-K - 12th grade, meeting twice per month (on Wednesdays; see church calendar for all dates) during the school year. Kids participate in organized recreation, music, bible time and a family-style dinner. We offer a monitored homework room available instead of recreation (5:30-6:00 p.m.) for any students needing to do schoolwork. Individual reading tutoring for 1st-3rd graders is also available with advanced arrangements. The High School program meets in the church cabin, but the teenagers will join the younger group for closing prayer. [More details]
